Hello, welcome to our website!
We are Karin and Ron, owners of Mas Karmel where we live with dogs Lola and Chico and cats Kees,Jos and Miew.
With a dose of catering experience, we left the Netherlands at the beginning of 2016 to realize our dream, which was to open a B&B and rustic campsite in Spain.
We have found that people today have a great need for a place to relax. We want to be this place. That is why we have chosen to only receive guests aged
14 and older on our site.
After a long search we ended up in the beautiful Terra Alta region in the province of Tarragona. Just outside the village of Horta de Sant Joan,(10 minutes on foot) our finca borders the 125 km long car-free walking and cycling route Via Verda.
Surrounded by the mountains, yet less than an hour from the coast, this is a wonderful holiday destination.
Keywords; tranquility, nature, walking, cycling, but also with a book at our pool.( pool open from June 1)
The village of Horta de Sant Joan has a very pleasant square with 4 bars where you can enjoy a snack
and a drink. There is also a Picasso museum, beautiful old buildings, municipal swimming pool, 3
supermarkets, butchers, bakers, hairdressers, pizzeria and restaurants.Nearby is, amongst other things, a bodega (wine tasting),
a riding stable, the longest zip-line in Europe, a natural swimming pool and a large lake.
We are 20 minutes from the Ebro where various activities take place such as canoeing. In the Els Ports nature park you can go for organized canyoning and mountain biking, but you can also make beautiful trips yourself, ranging from a relaxed walk to tough climbing.
There is a wide variety of birds including Griffon Vultures and Bee-eaters and butterflies, including the southern species, are well represented.
The Ebro Delta, an important nature reserve and the largest wetland in Europe,is an hour's drive from the campsite.
This is a great location for bird watchers given the large number of different bird species that reside in this area permanently or temporarily during
migration.
The nearest large town is Tortosa 30 minutes away where you will find everything else you need. Several nice coastal towns and a fine doggy beach (Platja de la Bassa de l'Arena) less than an hour's drive away and also the Ebro Delta (Deltebre) with special flora and fauna. Port Aventura in Salou at five quarters of an hour as well as Reus airport. It is only 40 minutes to the AP-7 (the highway to the south).
Coming from GANDESA, turn left at the last roundabout towards Horta de Sant Joan.
Then take the third entrance on the left. At the entrance of this you see 2 green arrows on a large rock on the left and an iron gate on the right.
Follow this dirt road for 500 meters. Then you are at our Mas Karmel.
Coming from TORTOSA: follow the main road T334 through Horta de Sant Joan and exit again. Take the second entrance on the right (at the first entrance there is a sign Lo Parot which you do not take, but the next one) You will see 2 green arrows on a large rock on the left and an iron gate on the right.
Follow this dirt road for 500 meters. Then you are at our Mas Karmel.
